Honeysuckle White Turkey Donation

On November 17, 2010 at the St. Vincent DePaul Family Kitchen in downtown Johnstown there was a promotional kick off for the holiday season. Celebrity turkey carvers had 2 minutes to carve as much turkey off the bone as possible. The meat was then weighted and then the winner was presented with a gift certificate. Honeysuckle donates around 100 turkeys that are used for the Thanksgiving meal at the St. Vincent DePaul Family Kitchen and distributed around to area food pantries.

Representing Cambria-Rowe Business College in the event was Jennifer Carney. Other participants included: Jim Burton (WJAC-TV), Miles Palasz (from Mark Critz's office) Chip Minemyer (Tribune-Democrat), and Bill McKinney (United Way). The winner of the carving contest was Jim Burton.

Halloween

Both the Johnstown campus and the Indiana campus celebrated Halloween in style with parties on October 28th that included plenty of food, games and fun!

The Johnstown campus had a costume contest and awarded a 1st place to Dale Houck & Elizabeth Beideman (50's/Pin-up), a 2nd place to Linda Combs (witch), and 3rd place to Michael Shull (Lou Tice). Fun was had by all!

The Indiana campus started the week with students bringing in decorated pumpkins. Prizes were awarded on Thursday for the scariest, funniest, and most original pumpkin. Students came dressed for the party and prizes were awarded for the scariest (Alicia Firestone - witch), funniest - (Beth Burnett - Bingo Grammie), and most original (Tabitha McCracken - Pens Fan). During the luncheon students raised $375.00 for the American Diabetes Association.

Pink Day - Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure. Students at the Johnstown and Indiana campus of CRBC have been busy selling breast cancer awareness pens with the CRBC logo on them to raise funds and even had a Pink Day to get the word out about prevention.

Purple Day - Epilepsy Awareness

The Johnstown Campus recently held a Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness. Almost 3 million people in the United States have some form of epilepsy. Each year about 200,000 new cases of seizure disorders and epilepsy are diagnosed each year. About 10 percent of the American population will experience a seizure at sometime in their lifetime. SGAC Fundraisers - Johnstown Campus

Recently, the Johnstown campus of Cambria-Rowe Business College held two fundraisers that were a huge success. These fundraisers helped raise over $300.00 for the Epilepsy Foundation. The money raised will remain in Pennsylvania and do to the local branches of the Epilepsy Foundation that serve the approximately 98,000 people in our region that have epilepsy.

The first fundraiser was a sub and pizza sale. The second fundraiser was a picnic held at the Johnstown campus of Cambria-Rowe Business College on Thursday, August 19 in the school courtyard. For $2.00, students had a chance to dunk Mr. Tamm (instructor) or Mrs. Seidel (Director of Education) in the dunking booth. Picnic food was provided by the CRBC Cafe for students, faculty and staff. An SGAC (Student Group Activities Committee) information table was set up where bake goods were sold that were provided by students, faculty and staff.

It was a fun-filled day that raised alot of money for a great cause!

Final Perspectives - Indiana Summer 2010

The end of the Summer term is quickly approaching. Many graduates look back and reflect on how much they have learned and where this journey has taken them. Good luck to the graduates of Cambria-Rowe!

I came to Cambria-Rowe Business College to obtain a degree in Management, but I accomplished a lot more than that!! I have learned how to function in a diverse team environment and use my leadership abilities. I have made many life long friends along my journey that made the experience amazing. CRBC has an awesome support team that encouraged me along the way. The 4 day class schedule gave me the flexibility to spend time with my family too. I will never forget the encouraging and patient instructors. Good luck to all future CRBC graduates!

New Student Orientation & Early Book Sale - Indiana Campus

New students attending Cambria-Rowe Business College in the Fall 2010 term will be attending orientation sessions at their respective campuses. In Indiana, orientation for new students majoring in Medical Office Administration, Administrative Assistant, Medical Secretarial Diploma, Secretarial Diploma and Accounting Diploma will be held on August 17, 2010 from 3:30 until 5:00 PM. Orientation for new students majoring in Computer Support Specialist, Management, Business Administration, and Accounting will be held on August 19, 2010 from 3:30 until 5:00 PM.

Information covered at New Student Orientation will include policies, procedures, academics, and attendance. Students will also receive their schedules and their booklist for the fall term. Students will also be introduced to members of the Ambassador Club. These members are mentors for students.

A new student early booksale will be held on August 27th and August 30th from 8AM to 4PM. Students wishing to purchase books early must pay with cash, check, or money order only.

Christmas in July Celebration

Christmas in July is an annually celebrated event at the Indiana Campus of Cambria-Rowe Business College. Every year the Student Group Activities Committee (SGAC) chooses an organization to raise funds for. This quarter the SGAC has decided to help a local charity in Indiana called "The Back to School Bash." This organization is designed to help low income students receive school supplies for the upcoming school year. Last year the organization was able to put together 600 backpacks and sadly had to turn students away because of lack of supplies. This year they are hoping to assemble 1000 backpacks so no student will go without.

This year the “Back to School Bash” will be taking place on August 21st at the Calvary Presbyterian Church on Church Street from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. During the event local businesses set up booths so students and parents can gather information about the community. Cambria-Rowe will be providing a booth with FREE cotton candy and face painting for all the students involved. We have a number of fundraising events taking place this year that will make it possible for everyone to be involved in the donations.

“CRBC Christmas in July Luncheon”- SGAC will be holding a Christmas in July luncheon on Thursday, July 22nd. We are asking students to donate food items for the “cookout” style lunch. Tickets for the all you can eat buffet will be sold for 5.00 and available to students, faculty, and staff for purchase.

“Christmas in July” Chinese Auction - This year SGAC will be conducting a “Christmas” themed Chinese auction. We are asking students to purchase a $5.00 gift and wrap it in your favorite Christmas wrapping paper. We will bring in the gifts the day of the luncheon and sell tickets so you will have chances to win.

“Christmas” Bingo - This year the “Christmas in July” committee decided to play “Christmas Bingo” after our luncheon. Each bingo card will be 1.00 a piece with no limit to how many cards you can purchase. We will be playing three games total with great prizes to be awarded to the winners. Remember the more cards you buy the better chance you have to win.

“Back to School Bash” paper ornaments - Paper ornaments are for sale and will be placed on the Christmas tree located in the student lounge. The ornaments will be 1.00 and all proceeds will go to the “Back to School Bash”.

Ice Cream Social -SGAC will be conducting a ice cream social on July 27th during lunch. Each student will have the option to purchase sundaes for 2.00 a piece which include two scoops of ice cream, your choice of topping, and whip cream. Additional scoops will be 1.00 a piece.

CRBC T-Shirts/Ribbed tanks - There will be CRBC t-shirts for sale starting . The t-shirts will be 10.00 a piece and come in a choice of pink or gray. Order forms will be located on the SGAC bulletin board.

We are hoping to raise as much as we can for this great cause. Remember all proceeds will go toward The “Back to School Bash” Let’s lend a hand in helping these kids have a great school year!

The President and CEO of Concurrent Technologies Corporation, Ed Sheehan Jr. was the guest speaker at the ceremony. CRBC... Fighting for Causes

CRBC campuses participate in fights for various causes. Most recently, Johnstown has been raising money for pregnancy and baby health; Indiana has been raising money for the fight against cancer.

JOHNSTOWN/MARCH OF DIMES

Johnstown participated in the March of Dimes walk on Sunday, May 2, at the Ferndale Elementary School. Shirts with CRBC on them and bracelets were sold with all proceeds going towards the March of Dimes.

INDIANA/"SCORE AGAINST CANCER"

The Indiana campus has taken on to help the fight against cancer. Through sells of candles, hanging baskets for Mother's Day, 9th Street Deli Tickets, a luncheon catered by its own CRBC students, and most recently its 3rd year in Relay for Life, SGAC members raised $1400. One student alone raised over $500!

"The Relay for Life is a fun-filled, nation-wide event involving family, friends, and co-workers in a community effort to raise funds for the fight against cancer. It represents our hope that those lost to cancer will not be forgotten; that those battling cancer will be supported; and that someday cancer will be eliminated. Most importantly, it is a celebration of hope for those who have survived cancer."

Presidential Grant Scholarship

The Presidential Grant is an exclusive grant for high-school students that was created and is given out by Cambria-Rowe Business College. The grant pays half the cost of a student's CRBC tuition.

Two awards are granted in the winter and one in the spring for both the Johnstown and Indiana campuses for any high school student planning to attend Cambria-Rowe.

Requirements for the grant:

Completed application (can be picked up at either campus;) Winter deadline, December 31; Spring deadline, April 30
A minimum 200 word essay describing career goals in business
One letter of recommendation
Updated high-school transcript, including current year's grades

Each campus has its own Presidential Grant Committee which decides the grant winners.

Career Services...A Lifetime Commitment to You

CAREER SERVICES is a department at CRBC that has liaisons within the Johnstown and Indiana campuses. These liaisons attend various dinners, mixers, and networking events, such as job fairs, to keep in touch with area employers.

Their job is to examine surrounding companies' needs and match those needs with the skills of a past or current CRBC graduate. They also help students and graduates with resumes, cover letters, interviewing skills, and whatever else may be needed to help assist graduates with employment. The liaisons will help with job searching, as well as, refer graduates to job openings.

Various methods are used to help graduates pursue their employment goals.

LIFETIME PLACEMENT. All graduates have the Career Service’s assistance in finding employment no matter how long ago they graduated from CRBC. All they have to do is contact Career Services and ask for assistance in seeking employment.

SHADOWING. Prior to graduation, students are encouraged to shadow an area business to gain skills and experience to add to their resume.

MOCK INTERVIEWS. Given in the last term before graduation, local employers are brought in to “mock” interview upcoming graduates. THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CLASS. In this class students learn all of the do's and don'ts of the business world. They prepare resumes, references, and cover letters; analyze interviewing skills, as well as, all other areas of business. Students learn all of the skills needed to excel in today's business world.

A two-year A.S.B. Degree can be obtained in just 18 months if the student chooses to go through the summer months, AND we guarantee their Graduation Date! No hassles with scheduling or worries about classes being canceled. As long as the student is academically successful and carries a full-time schedule, we guarantee them all their required classes to graduate on time!

A successful Career Services Department with an excellent employment history.

Students waste no time between classes and they have their evenings free and three day weekends with the 5-class schedule, Monday-Thursday from 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Financial Aid and Scholarships are available for those who qualify.

All classes required are directly related to your chosen major. We offer a Job Specific Curriculum!

Cambria-Rowe is accredited and credits are transferable.
